What we know about his characterUpdate May 16, 1998 Qui-Gon Jinn
Jedi Master Jinn possesses strong features and a piercing gaze. Powerfully built and speaking in a grave and determined voice, he has a very intimidating presence. He wears his long hair tied back so as not to obstruct his peripheral vision. Although a little past his prime, he remains a powerful warrior and a very active Jedi Knight. Qui-Gon Jinn is closely attuned to the Force, and has a strong empathy toward all life forms. His focus is in the moment, and he follows his instincts even when others may consider them reckless. Official word on Liam Neeson's character is that he will be a well-respected Jedi who will be a mentor to Obi-Wan Kenobi. The character will be wise and noble, and Neeson's large stature and gentleness will aid him in the role (Star Wars Insider #34). The Force.Net has comically defined what "Venerable" means.
Rumor has it that his name is Qui-Gon Jinn. For now people are pronouncing it as KWEE-GONE JEN, until Lucasfilm can confirm this. Rumors also state that in ILM they refers to Liam character as "Talkron". So if you hear anyone on ILM refer to this, then you know they are talking about Liam character. Of course how many people get the privalage to go to ILM or even Skywalker Ranch? The only thing that I am curious about is why doesn't Obi-Wan mention that he had another Jedi Master? I thought Yoda was Obi-Wan's only master, but this is an interesting story to tell. How Obi-Wan meet and was taught by this Jedi. About Liam NeesonIrish-born Neeson worked as a forklift operator for Guinness, truck driver, assistant architect and an amateur boxer. He had originally sought a career as a teacher by attending Queens College in Belfast. However, in 1976, Neeson joined the Belfast Lyric Players' Theater and made his professional acting debut in the play "The Risen People". After two years, Neeson moved to Dublin's Abbey Theater where he would perform the classics. It was here that he was spotted by director John Boorman and was cast in the film 'Excalibur (1981)', which dealt with the Arthurian legend. From there, he would act in a number of average films and Television Mini-series until he gained notice for his role as the deaf mute in 'Suspect (1987)'. Neeson would not be the lead in a movie until he appeared in 'Darkman (1990)'. Good performances in 'Leap of Faith (1992)' and 'Husbands and Wives (1992)' led to Neeson being picked for the role of Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielberg's 'Schindler's List (1993)'. For this role, Neeson would be nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe. In 1993, he made his Broadway debut in "Anna Christie" in which he co-starred with Natasha Richardson. For his role in this play, Neeson would be nominated for a Tony. When he returned to the big screen, Neeson would again co-star with Richardson in the Jodie Foster movie 'Nell (1994)'. In the next 2 years, Neeson would play characters close to his roots when he was the eighteenth century Scottish Highlander 'Rob Roy (1995)' and the Irish revolutionary leader 'Michael Collins (1996)'.
