What we know about her character

Update May 18, 1998

Queen Amidala
At fourteen, Queen Amidala rules over the Naboo people with the freshness of her young years and the efficiency of a true leader. Through her rigorous training, Amidala has demonstrated her dedication to the well-being of Naboo, and she has quickly earned the trust and loyalty of the people who elected her.
The Queen attends her world’s needs and addresses the concerns of her subjects, ruling from her palace in the capital city of Theed. However, Amidala’s regal presence is sometimes required at offworld political gatherings. In such occasions, it is customary for the Queen’s handmaidens to follow their monarch and assist her, as well as for Captain Panaka to provide additional protection with a team of guards specially trained for offworld duty.
The Naboo people’s faith in their leader is justified, for Amidala’s heart is true, and her determination unwavering. But the threat looming ahead might very well put the Queen’s abilities to the ultimate test.

This Bio came from the back packaging of the episode 1 action figures. Along with the bios are Commtech chip lines that the figures say to one another. In the teaser trailer we do Natalie playing both Queen Amidala and Padma Naberrie, but so far not one has explained why this happens. I assume we will have to wait till the film is release to understand why is the actress playing two roles. Only time will tell if the bios and the lines are real. These were posted on SirSteve's Star War Guide.

Padme Naberrie "As handmaiden to the young Queen Amidala of Naboo, Padme Naberrir is a trusted advisor and privy to many important state secrets."
Commtech: "I've been trained in defense, I can take care of myself." ; "You're a funny little boy, how do you know so much?" ; and "These junk dealers must have a weakness of some kind."
Interacts with Qui-Gon Jinn and Anakin Skywalker
Queen Amidala "The young and newly elected ruler of Naboo, Queen Amidala desperately attempts to save her planet from the greedy Trade Federation with the help from Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi."
Commtech: "Now Viceroy, this is the end of you occupation here." ; "I am Queen Amidala." ; "This is my decoy, my loyal bodyguard." ; and "If we do not act quickly all will be lost forever."
Interacts with Boss Nass, Nute Gunray and Rune Haako

Update November 24, 1998
New Episode Cast Pictures. I have been to SirSteve's Guide to Star Wars page before, and I always seemed to get lost in it. He has a lot of information on new and upcoming The Phantom Menace Toys. I was planning to post up some pictures that he had on the Battle Droid and Mace Windu. This time he has gotten a series of pictures for the "Classic" character series. The whole idea behind the "Classic" Star Wars series is these characters have a link with characters in the Prequel. Well, SirSteve has been nice enough to post up pictures of the figures, the box they were on and the bios that were on the back of the package (Which I have to give him credit for because some of them are hard to read). So check out the site and check out the pictures.

Princess Leia / Queen Adimala
Princess Leia / Queen Adimala 576 x 303 47.5 k
A strong-willed warrior who fought for the Rebel cause with great courage, Princess Leia Organa was a natural born leader of the Rebel Alliance. The princess always carried herself with a regal air, whether taking part in the fiercest of battles, or participating in state ceremonies of the highest level. Although she was adopted at a young age into the Royal House of Alderaan, Leia was in fact a true princess, as her birth mother was Queen Amidala of Naboo. In her day, Amidala, also proved to be an adventurous spirit and a great heroine to her people when her planet faced it's greatest threat.

A couple of rumors from Ain't It Cool News.

Yeah, I noticed it too. It seems that this is the closest thing to actually official announcing that Natalie Portman's Character is Queen Adimala. Instead of what we have been calling her Padma. From my sources it seems that Padma is her name and Adimala is also her name. Queen Padma Adimala is parts of her name, but we don't know technically in what order her full name goes by.

This character, who will eventually wed Anakin Skywalker and give birth to Luke and Leia, has been the most important Star Wars figure we've known the least about.

We do know that her name will be Padme (pronounced PAD-MAY). On The Official Star Wars site the casting director slipped this out.

Her quest began with brief summaries from writer-director George Lucas and Producer Rick McCallum. "I had thumbnail sketches of the characters from George to start with. Two months later I was working from the script itself." Gurland worked on finding players for the two youngest roles (Anakin and Padme) first, then moved on to the Jedi Knights eventually portrayed by Ewan MacGregor and Liam Neeson. Around these principal actors she built the rest of the cast. "By January 1997 or so, I was fully casting the whole film," she says.

On Rosie O'Donnell Show she has said that she will be in all three films.

In a W magazine interview he has said that she had to go through 10 different looks while filming the film. Who know if she means costumes, hair or even make up.

About Natalie Portman

She is an excellent actress, and it really surprises you when you see a performance like that from someone of a young age. Her best work is in Leon (The Professional in the US) and Beautiful Girls, al the other films she is just has small role. But from just these films you can tell that this girl has the potential to be the next Glen Close, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Jessica Lang or Michelle Phiffer. I really stand by this girl.
