Yoda's origins are a mystery, but George Lucas must know for the prequels. He lived on Dagobah, because it was a Dark Force Nexus, which canceled out the Light Force vibrations he sent out. This means, that no one knew he was there. When Luke came to Yoda, Yoda was over 900 years old. Luke left before he fully learned the ways of the force, and then went back to see Yoda in Return of the Jedi. When Luke went to see Yoda again, Yoda was dying, but he would always be with a Jedi.
